Antimicrobial susceptibility testing is essential in predicting the in vivo success or failure of antibiotic therapy. This helps in the identification of resistance. Combined with clinical information and experience, the results of the tests are used in the selection of the appropriate antibiotic regimen for the patients. The use of antibiotics, as and only when needed, is critical in preventing a further spread of the Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) crisis.
